Rockstar Apologises For ‘No Timeline’ or Information For GTA, Insists Its To Surprise Users

Rockstar Games have posted over at their blog today that they are sorry for the lack of information regarding the next version of the GTA franchise, GTA V. The apology says that whilst they understand that there is a fanatical following for the game – which they assure us, they haven’t forgotten about – they can’t provide any update-to-date information on the game at the moment because of the way they are releasing it.

“As we have said before, we have often had long gaps between asset releases on previous games and will continue to do so in the future. We are sorry if you find this frustrating, but please understand, we don’t do this because we ‘don’t care about our fans’, ‘don’t respect our fans’, ‘hate GTA fans etc’ – precisely the opposite!” say Rockstar.

They want to see us surprised because thats how you meet expectations, which derives from anticipation. And anticipation can only be created by teasing your most fanatical of fans.

This is something that we referenced when the first couple of screenshots came through showing off the landscape and environment of the setting. Rockstar’s PR isn’t going to give away any crucial information, and whilst they have told us a lot about the gameplay of GTA V, story wise we’ve only been given brief information. Info on multiplayer has also been limited to “its going to be a complete new take from previous GTA games.” This is because Rockstar “want to keep plenty back for the actual game release, so there are still lots of surprises when you play it.”

Whilst it may seem like an innocent statement, its the truth. They want to see us surprised because thats how you meet expectations, which derives from anticipation. And anticipation can only be created by teasing your most fanatical of fans. “Sorry, we can’t provide a timeline as to when you can expect more info or media from GTA V. Right now we’re just bunkered down busy working on the game and aren’t ready to share anything new – please be patient and of course there will be more to see in the months leading up to game release. Thank you,” Rockstar added.

The next piece of information that is likely going to be released is the box art, possibly around end of May beginning of June timeframe, after Rockstar reveal that it “will be coming out a bit later as well” last month.
